Sales of this mobile device have come to a halt temporarily until Sony Ericsson outlays a way for fixing the issues raised by customers. Some of these issues range from slowness down to powering down of the device. It is most likely that it is a hardware issue as even a comprehensive firmware upgrade is unlikely to fix the problem.

Richard Dorman, Sony Ericsson’s Senior marketing Manager spoke to The Times. He said “Sales of the product have been very strong and we expect them to remain strong once the problem has been fixed.”

In a similar story, T3.com claimed that the withdrawal of the phone from the two key shops may well have an adverse effect on the sales of this device. They said that this is “made worse by the over-enthusiastic advertising of the Satio, which shows several cheerful people bouncing about on spacehoppers taking photos of each other on the Satio.”

Anyway, this isn’t a widespread decision as it was observed that Vodafone, T-Mobile and Orange were still offering the device for sale.

The most camera-looking phone ever created, the Sony Ericsson Satio lives up to its looks with a whopping 12.1 megapixel camera. Does this guarantee anything except perhaps annoyingly large file sizes? It sure doesn’t. But we think the Sony Ericsson Satio might have a little more to offer than most of the heavyweight phones on their way. And one of the best things about it, in fact, is that it isn’t selling itself as a ‘cameraphone’. Preferring instead to talk up the phone’s ‘visual communication’ capabilities, we think Sony Ericsson have made a very smart choice indeed. As we’ve ranted about before, a phone is a phone, no matter how many megapixels it has, and pretending the camera is anything other than one of various multimedia extensions to a phone is a dangerous game.

So what does the Sony Ericsson Satio have to offer in terms of visual communication then? Well, most impressively it has a 16:9 ratio full touchscreen that, as far as we’ve seen, is about as crystal clear as screens come. This isn’t an AMOLED screen as we’ve seen recently on the various Samsung models being released, but it’s a decent enough effort. Add to that some cool media downloading options through the PlayNow Arena, a nifty instant-access touch panel to jump to your various media options from the homescreen and, well, lots of other stuff (check out this Sony Ericsson Satio review for a full rundown) and you’ll realise the Satio is an impressive little number.
